Kegnæs fyr
KEGNÆS LIGHTHOUSE
The first Kegnæs Lighthouse was established in 1845 and consisted of a tower integrated with the lighthouse keeper’s residence. Following the Second Schleswig War in 1864, the lighthouse came under German administration.
In 1896, the current 18-meter-high tower was built, and the lighthouse was converted into a sector light with a flashing characteristic, using shutters in the lantern to create the flash groups.
The original lighthouse from 1845 has long since been removed, but the original lighthouse keeper’s residence still exists and now serves as a private home.
At the end of World War I, the lighthouse was officially handed over in July 1920 by Regierungs- und Baurat Michels, representing the Regierungspräsident in Schleswig, to Lighthouse Engineer F. N. Brinch. That same year, a mantle burner for kerosene was installed, and in the following years, a new lighthouse keeper’s residence was built.
