The development of Sønderborg’s old industrial harbor is in full swing. The first new buildings at the harbor have created new spaces and the need for additional urban functions and better connections to the rest of the city. New workplaces and homes have already impacted the local environment, as more people frequent the area and adapt to new behaviors.

At the same time, the new urban area will become a significant asset for the city as an important destination. Accessibility to the harbor area is therefore crucial. The city and the harbor must be connected through a well-functioning network of roads and pathways, supported by urban spaces.

Urban spaces are where all needs converge. It is in these public, shared areas that expectations for identity, coherence, accessibility, functionality, belonging, atmosphere, and experiences must be fulfilled.
